Phase 2, Big Impact: What Metro Expansion Means for PCMC.

Maha Metro has come up with a revised DPR for the Nigdi (Bhakti-Shakti) Chakan corridor. It proposes a 45.3-km elevated line with 34 stations.

Maha Metro has made a giant leap towards strengthening public transport in Pimpri Chinchwad by submitting the revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Nigdi (Bhakti-Shakti) to Chakan Metro Corridor. The project is expected to be a major part of meeting the city’s increasing transport needs and supporting future urban development.

The proposed metro line will be completely elevated with a length of 45.295 km with 34 stations which will ensure faster, safer and more efficient public transport for thousands of daily commuters. Once completed, the corridor will provide better connectivity through a number of the major residential, commercial and industrial areas of the city.

The route will connect Punawale, Tathawade, Wakad, Pimple Gurav, Nashik Phata, Bhosari, Moshi and Chakan which will improve east west connectivity of Pimpri Chinchwad. The project is also expected to give a big transport boost to the Chakan industrial belt, one of the state’s biggest manufacturing and automotive hubs.

The proposed corridor is expected to reduce traffic congestion on the city’s busy roads, providing a reliable alternative to private vehicles. It is expected to benefit a large number of commuters including students, working professionals, women, senior citizens and employees commuting to industrial areas.

With the submission of the revised DPR, the proposed Metro Phase 2 project moves a step closer to implementation, marking another important milestone in the expansion of Pune Metro and the development of a more sustainable and efficient public transportation network for the Pimpri Chinchwad region.
