PCMC Moshi Tragedy SIT and State Government Conduct Parallel Investigations.

While the police SIT investigates criminal negligence, the state appointed committee is examining the causes of the collapse, safety lapses, and accountability in the tragedy that claimed nine workers lives.
A massive heap of garbage collapsed at the Moshi waste depot of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation at around 1.45 pm on July 8. Nine workers, who were trapped inside, were killed when the three story administrative building of the ‘Waste-to-Energy’ plant collapsed. An 11 member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted by the Pimpri Chinchwad Police to probe the tragedy in detail.
Following this significant incident, a few questions have surfaced: Were the workers given adequate safety precautions? Why did the garbage mountain collapse? Was the risk identified in advance? If the danger was known, why weren't preventive measures taken before the incident occurred? All these aspects will be studied by an 11 member team.
A case has been registered against two officials of the contracting company under various sections of law including charges of culpable homicide. The SIT will go through documents, expert reports, technical data connected to the site, and statements of officials and employees. The state government, for its part, is running its own investigation.
So, there are two separate bodies probing the incident, a high level government committee and the police SIT. 9 lives are gone and the citizens are closely watching if the investigation will bring out the truth and distinctly point out who is responsible for this tragedy.
